Spring Semester 2024

During the process of constructing other garments for this collection, I could not get the idea of red lace out of my head. In my vision, red lace has always represented an untouchable beauty and power behind it. The idea of red in an American context represents hardness and valor.

The idea of valor to Americans is often representative of determination and bravery in the face of great danger. I found this idea ironic, seeing that America is often the aggressor in world politics. (America has disrupted and intervened in roughly one out of every nine major national elections worldwide since 1991.) To be a country that consistently complains about other countries interfering with our elections is inherently hypocritical seeing that we love to interfere and mettle in other countries to the extent of nuanced domination.
